Underlay acts as an insulator whilst offering comfort and cushioning under your feet. In addition the adhesive used to install the laminate flooring may not be compatible with styrofoam. While styrofoam is an excellent insulation material it is probably not rigid enough to be placed below the laminate flooring. There is underlay for many different requirements such as fibre underlay for carpet to foam underlay which is suitable for wood laminate and carpet.

Super gold is the thickest underlay you can put under laminate or wood flooring. Techniboard is a lightweight rigid wood and laminate flooring underlay. Techni board also offers excellent impact sound and walking noise reduction high weight resistance and effective moisture protection featuring drain. It has a built in damp proof membrane so works great when laying on concrete floors for example kitchens and other downstairs rooms.
