Installing Carpet Seams

If your carpet starts to unravel at the seams is shedding or has experienced water damage it s time to replace your carpet.

If you have carpeting installed and this is a problem in some cases it can be repaired. For a seam tape fix pull back the two loose pieces of carpet and remove the old seam tape. Carpet prices may even include the cost of installation. Wait for several hours before removing the weights or walking on the carpet.

Place the new seam tape between the two pieces of carpet and heat the tape with your steaming iron. Press the carpet edges into the glue and weigh them down with weights or books. Then roll out the carpet leaving 3 4 inches of excess on each side. While this is an admirable goal invisible seams should never be promised.

Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip. Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer. Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. Install carpet strips so that they run toward the room s windows rather than perpendicular to them.
